Dr. Drew Pinsky Debunks the Fake Coronavirus News

It is refreshing to hear someone with common sense and respect for facts.

Infectious disease specialists, the CDC, the epidemiologist need to take this very seriously. The press needs to shut up.

Dr. Drew Pinsky.

Coronavirus? The overblown press-created hysteria.

No one is suggesting that we should stop paying attention to COVID-19 and live our lives like nothing is happening. But, at the same time, we should avoid panic and keep things in perspective.

We have zero deaths from coronavirus. We have almost no cases. There are people walking around out there with the virus that don’t even know they have it, it’s so mild. So it’s going to be much more widespread than we knew. It’s going to be much milder than we knew. The 1.7% fatality rate is going to fall. Where was the press during the Mediterranean Corona outbreak, where the fatality rate was 41%? Why didn’t they get crazed about MERS or SARS? This is an overblown press-created hysteria.

Dr. Drew Pinsky

Amen to this.

The last thought.

I’m sure that there’s going to be more cases of SARS-CoV-2 infections in the United States. Hopefully, no one will die. We should take all the necessary precautions, but we shouldn’t surrender to this virus and put our lives on hold.

To keep things in perspective. CDC estimates that so far this season, there have been at least 32 million flu illnesses, 310,000 hospitalizations, and 18,000 deaths from flu.

Tim Cook Of Apple Discusses China, Coronavirus, Apple’s Supply Chains And Working With President Trump

While Tim Cook of Apple has recognized the impact of coronavirus on his company’s supply chain, he seems to think the situation is improving.

Tim Cook

Cool and collected.

The contrary to the panic created and pushed on us by main-stream media, Apple’s CEO — Tim Cook, seems not to worry about his company’s future.

It feels to me that China is getting the coronavirus under control. I mean, you look at the numbers, they’re coming down day by day by day. And so, I’m very optimistic there.

He views the current situation as a temporary setback that he and his people deal with.

[T]here will always be unpredictable things that come up. But as you know from following us, we work through earthquakes, tornadoes, fires, floods, tsunamis, SARS.

and

[S]o, the question for us after we get on the other side will be: Was the resilience there or not. and do we need to make some changes?

He even looks at the current stock market crash as an opportunity.

I don’t want to announce anything on the air, but everybody knows that we’re buying [Apple] shares, and if the stock is lower, you buy more shares for the same amount of money.

Coronavirus — To Panic, Or Not To Panic? That Is The Question.

For some reason, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases — Dr. Nancy Messonnier — decided to issue a warning, stating that community transmission of coronavirus is inevitable. She told reporters that it’s not a matter of if, but when.

In an attempt to calm down the U.S. population, the Department of Health and Human Services (H.H.S.) officials held a press briefing today (Feb 25, 2020) to provide information on the ongoing U.S. response to COVID19.

The same day Larry Kudlow, director of the U.S. National Economic Council, joined CNBC’s Kelly Evans to discuss the possible impact of the coronavirus on the U.S. economy and the stock market.

Ladies and gentlemen don’t overreact.

Be extremely cautious, be alert, but keep calm.

It appears that Dr. Messonnier lost her cool and, without consulting anyone in the Department of Health and Human Services, decided to press a panic button.

Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the C.D.C.’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters:

Ultimately, we expect we will see community spread in this country.

and then added,

It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more of a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illness

Don’t misunderstand. I’m not suggesting that everything is fine and dandy. The events in South Korea and Italy are a clear example of how quickly the situation can go from being under control to total disaster. But I don’t think that it is a good idea to shout “fire” in a crowded theater because there’s a chance that a fire will break out.

If it comes to number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in U.S. as of Feb. 25th we have:

  • Cases detected here in the United States involving travel to China or close contacts with those travelers – 14
  • Cases among Americans repatriated from Wuhan – 3
  • American passengers repatriated from the Diamond Princess – 40

No deaths have been reported. Hopefully, it will stay this way.

COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC TRACKER

I decided to drop the Johns Hopkins corona tracker and switch to Worldometer’s COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC tracker. It’s not as good looking as the one from Johns Hopkins but provides more information.

  • Currently Infected Patients (Active Cases)
  • Patients in Mild Condition
  • Patients in Serious or Critical Condition
  • Closed Cases (Recovered / Discharged and Deaths)

Data on testing at The COVID Tracking Project. (US totals and state by state numbers.)

It’s also a good idea to read this article: Evidence over hysteria — COVID-19. (It looks like this post was taken down by Medium. Will see if it come back.) The material is still on at this location.

If you rather use tracker from Johns Hopkins, use this link. Remember, however, that in order to get the number of people presently infected (active cases) you must subtract “Total Deaths” and “Total Recovered” from “Total Confirmed”.

Why Is Artificial Intelligence Terrifying?

A.I. is terrifying. It is terrifying, not because of the risk that someday it will go rogue and take control over our (human) lives, but because it could (will?) be used by one group of people against another.

(I know. China is in it already.)

In The Age Of A.I.

I’ve come across this documentary by accident when googling for something. For whatever reason, Google’s Artificial Intelligence algorithms ruled that this video fits perfectly into the area of my interests. What can I say; Google was right.

The video contains five stories about how artificial intelligence is changing our world. Enjoy the movie; it will scare you to death. 😐

Couple of quotes from In The Age of A.I.

We came into this new world thinking that we were users of social media. It didn’t occur to us that social media was actually using us. We thought that we were searching Google. We had no idea that Google was searching us.

A.I. is a technology that can be used for good and evil. So how do governments limit themselves in, on the one hand, using this A.I. technology and the database to maintain a safe environment for its citizens, but not encroach on an individual’s rights and privacies?

So the A.I.s are tools. And they will serve the people who control those tools. If those people’s interests go against the values of democracy, then democracy is in danger.

NEC Director Larry Kudlow On Coronavirus, China And U.S. Economy

Donald Trump OKs Much-Needed Water For San Joaquin Valley Farmers

On Wednesday in California, President Trump signed an order to re-design the state’s water policies, fulfilling a campaign promise to channel water from the north to the thirsty agriculture industry and growing population further south.

For too long, water authorities have flushed millions of gallons into the Pacific. I ordered the administration to update outdated opinions, which determined water allocation in this state.

The ceremonial order came after the Department of Interior late last year reversed its opinion on scientific findings that extended endangered species protections to various types of fish. The request from Trump had launched the review.

We will file a legal action in the coming days to challenge the federal biological opinions to protect highly imperiled fish species close to extinction,

Senator Tom Cotton Discusses Latest News on Coronavirus

Senator Cotton joins Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. He said that China is “still lying” about the gravity of the coronavirus outbreak that has killed (as of Feb. 17, 2020) more than 1,770 people.

Sen. Cotton speaks
To Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business.

From an interview:
In response to Maria’s opening where she asked Sen. Cotton to:

Asses the situation as you know it today.

Sen. Cotton replied:

The situation is very grave in part because …, China was lying from the beginning, and they’re still lying today. And also because there are so many unknowns about this virus. For example, how many people one person can infect once they have the virus?

Published on Feb 16, 2020

The more we know the scariest it gets. Only a few miles away from the animal market, where according to the Chinese government, the virus outbreak has originated, is China’s only biosafety level 4 super laboratory that researches human infectious diseases.

This virus did not originate in the Wuhan animal market. Epidemiologists who are widely respected from China who published a study … have demonstrated that several of the original cases did not have any contact with that food market. The virus went into that food market before it came out of that food market.

Said Sen. Cotton during the interview, and then added,

Now we don’t have evidence that this disease originated there, but because of China’s duplicity and dishonesty from the beginning we need to at least ask the question.

I think asking questions isn’t enough. We need to make sure that they will answer those questions and answer them honestly. So far, they refuse to do so.

In response to Siraj Hashmi’s question about Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn:

First of all, what happened to Michael Flynn? Like how did this all transpire? His takedown, him being prosecuted, ultimately indicted and sort of found guilty.

Rep. Nunes said:

I believe he was targeted because he knew where all the bodies were buried and he knew that the Obama administration had seated here in Washington at the highest levels of the intelligence agencies a bunch of people that he knew were not up to par, he would have brought in a whole new crop of people, and of course, he was cut off at his knees before he even got started.

Huawei Technologies Chief Security Officer Andy Purdy Under Fire From Maria Bartiromo

Andy Purdy — Huawei Technologies Chief Security Officer — answers to allegations that the Chinese telecom giant is using “back doors” designed for law enforcement officials to access mobile phone networks.

The U.S. government on Thursday (Feb 13, 2020) filed new charges against Huawei, accusing the Chinese tech giant of a scheme to steal the intellectual property of U.S. companies. To minimize any additional damage to the company’s already strained image, Huawei sent out its Chief Security Officer — Andy Purdy.

Andy Purdy Speaks
To Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business.

In a Thursday “Mornings with Maria” interview, Huawei Technologies Chief Security Officer Andy Purdy denied U.S. intelligence allegations that China has backdoor access to the tech giant’s mobile devices.

Published on Feb 13, 2020

From an interview with Andy Purdy:
In response to Andy’s attempt to downgrade a back door to a simple vulnerability :

All equipment has vulnerabilities. That’s different than an intentional malicious back door, Maria, and you know that.

Maria said:

All equipment has vulnerability? All equipment does not have back doors to the Chinese communist government. Why do you have so many back doors going to the Chinese government, the communist government, so that anybody’s data is out there and goes right back to the Chinese government? We know this. Huawei is a Chinese company.

Very good interview. Maria was on fire, and I saw smoke coming out of Andy’s ears.
