Dan Bongino — New Line Of BS From The Media — Raw Numbers VS. Per Capita

The mainstream media hate Pres. Trump, we all know that. Dan Bongino illustrates how media spin masters use word manipulation to create erroneous conclusions and then impose those conclusions on their unsuspecting viewers, listeners, and readers.

Those of you who are old enough to remember Bruce Lee and Enter the Dragon, there’s a scene in that movie where Bruce, when making fun of some overheated “karate master,” describes his fighting style as “The Art of Fighting Without Fighting.” Well, mainstream media has mastered the art of lying without (at least technically) lying, and they are holding a high degree of a black belt in distorting the reality.

Using a national crisis for political gain.

Published by Dan Bongino Show on Mar 30, 2020

The media is

Instilling maximum red line panic in you all the time based on an infantile fifth-graders understanding of basic statistics hoping you’re dumb enough to believe it.

Dan Bangino

The last thought.

There are lots of liars in the media. They lie for many different reasons. Could be hate, could be greed, could be stupidity. Every country has those. Some have more of them than others. The question is, how should we calculate the numbers to find out which nation has most of them? Should we go by raw numbers or per capita?

FDA Issued Emergency Authorization Of Hydroxychloroquine For Coronavirus Care

Mar 29, 2020

The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus treatment.

Multiple companies are donating millions of doses of hydroxychloroquine.

  • Novartis announced its commitment to donate up to 130 million doses.
  • Amneal pledged to make 20 million tablets by mid-April.
  • Teva is donating 16 million tablets to hospitals around the U.S.
  • Bayer is donating 3 million doses.

Oracle is working on an online platform designed in collaboration with the White House. When finished, it will be used to collect information about the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

FDA Authorizes 15-minute Coronavirus Test

The FDA amended its emergency policy regarding diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19). Several specific private entities and labs will be allowed to develop and distribute tests that can provide results in as little as 5-15 minutes.

So far, after relaxing some policy guidelines, FDA named 29 companies that provided notification to the agency as required and are now therefore able to distribute their tests.

Since the explosion of coronavirus pandemic, FDA has changed, suspended, or amended many laws and regulations to make the fight with the virus easier and more effective. To bad that almost all those changes are temporary. They will expire or are going to be changed back to what it was before the outbreak after the virus is gone.

Rapid testing

You’ll know it in 15-minutes.

One of the test’s makers is Abbott Laboratories. Abbott expects to deliver 50,000 tests per day beginning next week and plans to produce about 5 million tests per month when fully operational.

Another 15 min-test is coming from Henry Schein. The firm said that several hundred thousand tests would be available by March 30, with many more expected in April.

The company that comes the closest to an at-home or direct-to-consumer test kit is called Coris BioConcept, which recently announced a DIY test that can deliver results in just 15 minutes. It works kind of like a pregnancy test. Unfortunately, the FDA had not authorized any test that is available to purchase for self-testing at home. The FDA took that action to protect consumers from fraudulent test kits – scammers selling fake products.

The rapid tests kits are serological, meaning they identify the presence of antibodies in a person’s blood.

Serological vs. molecular.

Serological testing is different from the molecular testing that is currently in use by labs and drive-through testing sites.

The serological tests show that a person has developed antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, which means very likely came into contact with it (and either has it or has already recovered from having it).

The molecular tests detect the presence of viral DNA in the bloodstream, which is a much more definitive indicator that they currently have an active infection

At-home test kits.

The benefit of at-home-collection kits is that the contact of potentially infected people with health professionals is kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, FDA can’t aloud the sale of DIY test kits online till there is a system in place, providing a safe and secure platform for people to buy those test kits without the risk of getting a fraudulent product.

The last thought.

Maybe it would be a good idea to create a simple government-run website (let’s say, virustestkits.gov), where legitimate test kit producers could sell their product to the general public. There’s probably a little more to it than that, but I like to keep things simple.

COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC TRACKER

I decided to drop the Johns Hopkins corona tracker and switch to Worldometer’s COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC tracker. It’s not as good looking as the one from Johns Hopkins but provides more information.

  • Currently Infected Patients (Active Cases)
  • Patients in Mild Condition
  • Patients in Serious or Critical Condition
  • Closed Cases (Recovered / Discharged and Deaths)

Data on testing at The COVID Tracking Project. (US totals and state by state numbers.)

It’s also a good idea to read this article: Evidence over hysteria — COVID-19. (It looks like this post was taken down by Medium. Will see if it come back.) The material is still on at this location.

If you rather use tracker from Johns Hopkins, use this link. Remember, however, that in order to get the number of people presently infected (active cases) you must subtract “Total Deaths” and “Total Recovered” from “Total Confirmed”.

Last month, NYC Democrats Said Coronavirus Was Nothing To Worry About.

Tucker Carlson explains why has the coronavirus outbreak been so devastating in New York City.

Listening to those officials brings a question: What the hell were they thinking? Or…, were they thinking at all?

How have local leaders failed their city?

Published by Fox News on Mar 26, 2020

The risk to new yorkers for coronavirus is low, and our preparedness as a city is very high. There is no reason not to take the subway, not to take the bus, not to go out to your favorite restaurant, and certainly not to miss the parade next Sunday.

Dr. Oxiris Barbot

The commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene on Feb 02. 2020.

The last thought.

So, according to NYC management, the risk to new yorkers for coronavirus was low, and their preparedness as a city was very high. That’s until we learned that viruses don’t give a damn about the tough talk by city officials and do what they do best — infect people, lots and lots of people.

Two Trillion Dollars Coronavirus Relief Package Passed In The Senate 96-0

The Senate overwhelmingly passed a massive stimulus package last night meant to lessen the economic blow of the coronavirus pandemic for American workers and businesses.

The amendment, proposed by Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., intended to fix the “Drafting Error” in the bill, did not reach the 60 vote threshold. It failed 48-48, mainly along party lines.

UPDATE:

On Friday, Mar 27, 2020, President Trump signed H.R. 748, the CARES Act.

McConnell, Schumer Announce Deal Reached In Coronavirus Relief Bill

Published by NBC News on Mar 25, 2020

President Donald Trump has said that he will sign the legislation, which provides:

  • $1,200 in direct cash payments for most Americans.
  • Expanded unemployment benefits (including those to freelancers and independent contractors.)
  • $350 billion in funds for government-backed loans for small businesses.
  • $500 billion for distressed industries.

The bill (the largest economic relief bill in U.S. history.) will now move to the House for a voice vote.

Senator Lindsey Graham — Coronavirus Relief Package Contains “Drafting Error”

The “drafting error” involves a fixed $600-per-week payment on the top of unemployment benefits — which are calculated using a worker’s current salary — that those who apply will receive.

In a statement, Sens. Tim Scott, R-S.C., Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Ben Sasse, R-Neb., and Rick Scott, R-Fla stated. In essence, the bill could provide a “strong incentive for employees to be laid off instead of going to work” because people could make more by being unemployed than employed.

Senators explain their objections.

Published by Fox News

On Mar 25, 20

So, I’m making $16/h in South Carolina, working 40 hours a week makes 600 dollars. If you’re unemployed, you can get up to three hundred twenty-six dollars. You get half your income so that six hundred dollar wage now becomes three hundred in unemployment.

What the federal government does is it comes in and puts six hundred in it on top of that three hundred, so now instead of making six hundred when you were working, you’re now making nine hundred not working.

How long do you stay in unemployment, if you’re making fifty percent more than you were working? The answer 16 weeks.

Senator Tim Scott

Democrats Holding Up The Coronavirus Relief Package

Today (3/23/20), Senate Majority Leader — Mitch McConnell shredded Democrat’s opposition to the Coronavirus relief package(S.3548 – CARES Act).

Democrats try to include unrelated amendments in the bill that have nothing whats so ever to do with the crisis our nation is facing right now.

Kipping America hostage?

Negotiations ware moving well, and then something has happened. Democrat leadership started coming up with new demands. It looks like whatever they couldn’t pass thru congress over the last few years, they want to force on us using the CARES Act. Hopefully, Republicans will not cave in.

These are just some of the unrelated demands Senate Democrats have used to slow relief for workers and families: Tax credits for solar and wind energy. Special treatment for Big Labor. Airlines’ emissions standards This is a crisis. Why is only one side acting like it?

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

I wonder if people who are losing their jobs as the economy contracts in the face of the coronavirus outbreak and depend on the passing of this bill to receive their next paycheck or at least partial financial support worry about:

  • Solar and wind energy?
  • The needs of big Labor?

or

  • New emissions standards for airlines?

I don’t think so.

People are trying to figure out how to deal with much more trivial problems, like paying their upcoming bills.

Many Americans are hurting, and they need help. The CARES Act would provide that help. Unfortunately, Democrats decided to use the coronavirus outbreak as a vehicle for their agenda.

This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.

Majority Whip James Clyburn

If you want to know what vision James Clyburn is talking about, you’ll have to read through over 1400 pages of the Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act — Nancy Pelosi’s coronavirus stimulus bill.

Couple of examples of demands in Pelosi’s coronavirus stimulus bill that Sen Cotton found.:

Have fun watching Democrats playing games. After all, many Americans have nothing else to do during the coronavirus lockdown.

Chloroquine — Very Old New Weapon Against Coronavirus

Chloroquine isn’t new. Its use dates back to World War II. Initially created to treat malaria, it is also used today in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

It appears that this drug prevents the gain of the virus into the cells and, therefore, prevents the cellular infection from occurring.

Roger Seheult, MD. is explaining

The possible efficacy of chloroquine in the treatment of coronavirus infections.

Published by MedCram on Mar 10, 2020

Both the virus that causes SARS and the virus responsible for COVID-19 belong to the same family of coronaviruses. Researchers discovered that the protein spikes on the surface of the SARS virus are similar to the protein spikes found on the surface of the COVID-19 virus.

Given chloroquine’s effectiveness in treating SARS, scientists are studying the effectiveness of the treatment against the new coronavirus responsible for COVID-19. So far, the initial trials are encouraging.

Dr. John Campbell — Calm, Cool And Collected Approach To Coronavirus Outbreak

I think this gentleman presents the proper way of reacting to the COVID-19 pandemic we are facing today.

The only thing I’d like to add to this presentation is that the “limited healthcare resources” (the black dotted line) are not constant. Depending on the strength and size of the economy, those resources can be quickly depleted (Kenya is a good example) or refurbished (like in the United States). Of course, even the most robust economy will not be able to fight the virus outbreak like the one we have today indefinitely, but I think a huge economy is better suited for the job than a small one.

Stop Coronavirus Outbreak Disinformation

Finally, ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got pissed off. It doesn’t happen too often. As a matter of fact, this is the first time since I had started this blog almost a year ago. So…

It seems like the coronavirus has caught up with me. Don’t worry; I’m not infected. I’m talking about my mental stability being under attack from all the mainstream media, social networks, and self-proclaimed experts (some even with a bunch of letters after their names) trying to hummer “the end is near” mantra into my brain.

What the hell is wrong with the mainstream media?

“Confirmed,” vs. “Active.”

The first thing I hear every morning for the last few weeks when I tune the radio to news station is the “number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infections.” Today the number was a little over 140 thousand.

And that number — the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infections — gets repeated over and over again by mainstream media in the U.S. and elsewhere.

So, what exactly ticks me off? Are those numbers inaccurate? Do media outlets lie? No, they don’t lie. They mislead. The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infections this morning has reached 140 thousand. But…, “the number of confirmed cases” means all cases of infections from the first one (in December 2019) to the last one (today). It includes people who got infected and died and people who contracted the virus but had since recovered.

The problem is that when people hear: The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infections has reached 140 thousand today, most of them think that there are 140 thousand active cases — individuals infected with the virus — right now, and that’s not the case.

This morning the number of active cases was 65,342. That’s far from the widely used figure of confirmed cases.

  • Total Confirmed: 140,875
    minus
  • Total Recovered: 70,174
    minus
  • Total Deaths:5,359
    equals
  • Total Active: 65,342

Mainstream media and, unfortunately, everyone else keeps using the number of “total confirmed” instead of “total active.” Even Johns Hopkins University doesn’t bother to show the number of “total active” cases on their COVID-19 interactive map, but prominently presents the number of confirmed cases at the top of the page.

Just for the record. The number of active cases of coronavirus in China dropped under 14 thousand. (Total confirmed — close to 81 thousand.)

Doomsday is coming.

You probably come across some predictions of uncontrollable coronavirus explosion. At the top of the list of alarmist scientists is Marc Lipsitch (an epidemiologist at Harvard University), who predicts that between 40 to 70 percent of adults in the world will become infected with the coronavirus. That’s at least 3 billion people.

Published by CBS Evening News on Mar 2, 2020

Luckily for us, “40 to 70 percent,” is just a forecast by mathematical models (models similar to those that predicted Manhattan would be under several feet of water in the year 2000).

Some other examples of overreacting:

Panic.

Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court, said he expects 70 million to 150 million people in the United States will become infected with COVID-19.

From CNBC

Cool and collected.

These estimates include people who will get sick and make a full recovery, and many people — could be as many as 50 percent or more (depending on which mathematical model was used to create calculations) — will catch the virus without ever feeling ill.

Panic.

As many as ’60 to 70 per cent’ of Germans will be infected with the deadly coronavirus, Chancellor Angela Merkel warned today, as the contagion threatened to rip through Europe.

From Daily Mail

Cool and collected.

Health Minister Jens Spahn pointed out during the meeting that 80 percent of all infected patients would have almost no symptoms.

Panic.

If the spread of the new coronavirus isn’t halted, it could infect 60 percent of the world’s population and kill 1 in 100 of those infected – around 50 million people.

Gabriel Leung, chair of public health medicine at Hong Kong University

Cool and collected.

“If the spread of the new coronavirus isn’t halted, it could infect 60 percent of the world’s population.”

If it isn’t halted, there’s no reason for it to stop at 60 percent. The virus is not going to stop spreading, then look around and say: OK, I’m at 60 percent. I think it’s good enough. If not halted, it will keep going.

Anyway, how Mr. Leung know that around 50 million people will die? Well, he doesn’t know. He likes to be in front of the camera, sharing his gloom and doom predictions. And we need reliable information instead of numbers pulled out of someone’s tin foil hat.

We need facts, not fantasy.

Unfortunately, when it comes to mainstream media, facts are in low supply. Media hype the bad news and overlook any positive information. They have gone to great lengths to create and now, to keep fear alive in the hearts of their viewers.

Some do it to juice-up the ratings or generate clicks, but most, including major media outlets, induce panic for political reasons. They intend to use fear to tank the economy and Trump’s odds of reelection. They don’t care that their actions hurt people, as long Donald Trump loses in 2020.

Bill Maher is a perfect example of the mainstream media attitude. For quite a while now (since long before COVID-19 outbreak), he roots for a recession so that Trump loses the next election. Maher said:

Sorry if that hurts people, but it’s either root for a recession, or you lose your democracy.

Is he really “sorry if that hurts people”? No, he’s not. He doesn’t care as long as Donald Trump is kicked out of the White House. Mr. Maher is a multi-millionaire (his net worth is 50-100 million dollars). Even if he loses most of his money, he will still be a millionaire. On the other hand, people who live paycheck to paycheck barely managing their bills, they will suffer. They will lose their jobs, their houses, their 401K/IRAs, all of that while Bill Maher keeps collecting his multi-million-dollar salary.

So, ladies and gentlemen.

Don’t buy into the media created panic. Don’t lock yourself in a basement or spend the last dollar to pay for the two-year supply of toilet paper. Be careful. Be calm. Most importantly, keep yourself informed. The best cure for anxiety is knowledge.
